This Week In GIFs: Intrusive Bird-People And Embarrassed Fruit

A man cries. An apple hides. A bird calls. A pitcher just smacks a baseball against his cup over and over. It was a fine seven days in sports. Vote, and help us determine the greatest animated GIF of the week.

This Week In GIFs Results: 'Sheepish Apple' Wins Hard-Fought Victory

Well, this is a THIS WEEK IN GIFs first: the animated GIF i picked to win is the one that actually won! It was quite a close race. JOEL PERALTA BANGIN' HIS JIMMIES (174 votes), DESPAIRING GIORGOS KARAGOUNIS (135) and others ensured a close race, but the winner of Week 7 is ...

This little guy won, thanks to 201 total votes. I can't believe you and I reached the same decision. I want you to know that while we may have our differences over GIFs from time to time, I respect you as a valued and qualified GIF enthusiast, and there is no stronger testament to this than our selection of a relatively subtle GIF.

It's quiet, even as far as GIFs go. It's simple. There is nothing crazy going on here. It's the sad, sweet tale of someone accidentally hitting the "HOME RUN APPLE" button in Citi Field when the Mets aren't even at bat, and it's beautiful.

Thanks once again, friends. You can see the full results here. Stay tuned, because on Friday we'll keep on rolling with the next edition of THIS WEEK IN GIFs. Between now and then, if there are any animated GIFs you'd like to nominate, let me know at @jon_bois.
