Seattle Mariners outfielder Franklin Gutierrez has suffered just another injury, getting a mild concussion after an errant pickoff throw hit him on the side of the head.

First, Franklin Gutierrez had to deal with a gastrointestinal disorder that sapped him of his weight, strength, and energy. Then he strained his oblique. Then he tore his pectoral muscle. Then he developed plantar fasciitis. Gutierrez recently re-joined the Mariners and looked like his old, healthy self, but of course, because it's Franklin Gutierrez, that wasn't meant to last. Gutierrez's latest problem: a concussion.

It's being termed a "mild" concussion, if that makes things any better. Thursday night, Gutierrez was on first base when Franklin Morales attempted a pickoff throw. The throw was wild, too wild for Adrian Gonzalez to haul in, and it hit Gutierrez on the side of the head.

Gutierrez was removed from the game, looking dazed, and he spent the night in the hospital for precautionary reasons. He's been sent home, but he's also been removed from the active roster.

While Gutierrez is out, Michael Saunders will return to center field, although he's presently dealing with flu-like symptoms of his own. Gutierrez has batted .267 with a .757 OPS over 49 plate appearances.
