Jason Marquis Joins Padres, Starting Thursday

On May 21, Jason Marquis was a member of the Minnesota Twins, then owners of the worst record in baseball at 14-27. Marquis was a culprit; he’d posted an 8.47 ERA and the Twins lost five of his seven starts.

That called for a DFA, naturally, so that’s what the Twins did; oddly, they have been a .500 team since then, 7-7. These two things are not thought to be related.

Marquis signed with the San Diego Padres, who are currently the owners of the worst record in baseball at 19-37.

Thus, this should come as no surprise:

Marquis is more familiar with the National League, and Petco Park is favorable to pitchers. He’s probably a step up from Jeff Suppan in the Padres’ dumpster-diving for pitchers this year.

It’s not been a good baseball year in San Diego. This move might make things marginally better.
