Yep, Butch Davis Wants To Coach Again

Stay connected with SB Nation

Things didn't exactly go too great for Butch Davis the last time around -- he was the head coach at UNC, where a pretty decent percentage of the stuff you're not allowed to do as a FBS football program seemed to be happening in some form or another, leading to his ouster just before the start of last year's football season.

However, while Butch may have been knocked down, he hasn't been knocked out. An AP story chronicles Davis' potential return to coaching:

`Well, here's what I know: I'm not going to be named in the allegations when it comes out.' But now it's us sitting here having to wait ... to finally prove in writing what we had been saying all along.'

As of now, Davis didn't officially do anything wrong, even though lots of bad stuff was going on under his watch. That leaves us in an awkward situation where he's currently working a non-coaching gig with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under his former defensive coordinator, Greg Schiano, while his former athletic director, Dick Baddour, is calling other employers on Davis' behalf, according to the article. And while Baddour no longer works for UNC, of course, the school wants him to get a job, because if he doesn't find another coaching position, they could be on the hook for $2.7 million for firing him without cause. So get ready for Davis back in the college coaching ranks! He's hoping to be there sometime around the time the next group of NCAA coaches get fired.

I didn't realize how much I missed regular old college football scandals related to college football.
