David Ortiz On Disabled List With Heel Injury

David Ortiz of the Red Sox suffered what appeared to be a minor heel injury when rounding second base on his way to scoring on an Adrian Gonzalez home run Monday night.

At the time, manager Bobby Valentine hoped Ortiz would miss just a few days. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. ESPN Boston:

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will go on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right heel, manager Bobby Valentine said Wednesday afternoon on Boston sports radio station WEEI. Infielder Mauro Gomez will be activated to take his spot on the roster.

Ortiz doesn’t appear to have any tears or Achilles problems, according to the ESPN Boston article, and the DL stint is likely going to be backdated to Tuesday, so he would be eligible to be activated August 1.

Ortiz has been having one of his better seasons, hitting .316/.414/.609 and currently leading the AL in runs scored and OPS.
