John Amaechi, the AbFab ladies, and a gay soccer advocate all had their time with the torch
On its trek through England, the Olympic torch has passed through the hands of thousands of people, many of them near and dear to the LGBT community.
Former NBA player John Amaechi joined gymnast Nadia Comanici in carrying the torch to the rooftop of the North Greenwich Arena, where the gymnastics events and basketball finals will be held. Amaechi-Comenici...somebody has a sense of rhyming.
For the last couple of weeks, we'd seen video of the Absolutely Fabulous ladies, Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, carrying a mock torch in their Olympic special. They got their mitts on the real thing yesterday. No word if Patsy lit her cigarette with the torch.
It was also cool to see Chris Basiurski, chair of the Gay Football Supporters' Network, carry the torch the day before the Opening Ceremony as well. Reports say the crowd cheered him loudly, culminating in a kiss for his boyfriend. Awww.
