The Chicago White Sox traded two prospects to the Minnesota Twins for the mercurial Francisco Liriano.

The White Sox really wanted Zack Greinke. Really, really wanted him. They didn't want to come off as super aggressive, but they wanted him to know, you know? But Greinke went to the Angels. As a consolation prize, the Sox picked up mercurial left-hander Francisco Liriano. From CSN Chicago:

The White Sox have acquired starter Francisco Liriano from Minnesota for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez, the team announced Saturday.

Escobar is a 23-year-old middle infielder who has split time between shortstop (107 games) and second (30 games) this season, hitting .266/.303/.354 in 489 at-bats. Hernandez is a 23-year-old starting pitcher who came over from the Padres in the Carlos Quentin trade, and he has a 2.94 ERA across AA and AAA this season with 54 strikeouts and 21 walks over 85 innings.

The oft-injured, 28-year-old Liriano ends his Twins career with a 50-52 record and a 4.33 ERA in 156 games over seven seasons. He has a 5.31 ERA this season, and he had two fantastic starts in July, striking out 15 and walking one against the A's on July 13, and striking out 10 against the Orioles on July 18. He then allowed seven runs in 2⅔ innings against the White Sox, who apparently said, "Saaaay, this guy really helps us win!", though they might have missed the point.
