Chipper Jones Replaces Matt Kemp On NL All-Star Team

The Braves' about-to-retire third baseman will be making his ninth All-Star appearance, and first-ever appearance at Kauffman Stadium.

One of the big questions surrounding The Final Vote for the All-Star Game's last roster position was whether the retiring Chipper Jones would get sentimental votes, or whether fans wanted to see hotshot rookie Bryce Harper.

They'll now get to see Jones anyway. Mark Bowman:

Chipper Jones will not have to wait to see if he gains an All-Star selection via the Final Vote balloting process. The Braves third baseman has been added to the National League roster to replace injured Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp.

Jones received word just before he and his Braves teammates began Tuesday night’s game against the Cubs at Turner Field. This is the ninth All-Star selection for the 40-year-old third baseman, who will retire at the conclusion of this season.

There's no word on what they'll do to reallocate the votes that have already been cast for Jones, if at all. Presumably, they'd take the second-place finisher if he wins the vote, which continues through 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.

There's one more change that'll happen as a result of this move:

One more thing Braun gets over Kemp. This time, though, it's due to injury, not a sportswriter vote.
