Tommy Hanson Injury: Back Strain Sends Starter To DL

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Tommy Hanson has been placed on the disabled list with a lower back strain, which isn't thought to be serious.

Monday night, Braves starter Tommy Hanson defeated the Marlins. But Monday night, Hanson lasted just five innings due to back discomfort, and Monday night, the Braves acquired starting pitcher Paul Maholm from the Cubs. Maholm would need a spot in the rotation. Hanson could use a bit of a rest so his back could heal up. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Yeah, the Braves already thought it and did it:

Hanson says he doesn't think this is anything major at all, and he expects to be back with the team when he's eligible. Better to get healthy now than to try to push things down the stretch, when you might only manage to make matters worse. Hanson owns a 4.29 ERA over a league-leading 22 starts. His walks are up and his strikeouts are down from where they were a year ago, but Hanson's still an important pitcher for the Braves, so he's an important pitcher to have feeling 100 percent, or something close to it.
