This Week In GIFs: The Best Week Ever

This summer is a season ripe for GIFing. Aside from baseball, which is perhaps the world's most GIFable sport, we have the X Games, the Olympics, and all the failures they espouse. It shouldn't surprise us, then, that Week 9 is perhaps the best in THIS WEEK IN GIFs' young history.

Before y'all dig in, here's some analysis of this week's roundup from Spencer Hall, Dan Rubenstein, and myself:

It wasn't a race, so there was no real reason to bring the bike off the track with any haste, but Eddie couldn't help himself. He never could. "Eddie! Moore just wrecked, make sure he's all right."

"OK," said Eddie, "but hold on. Just let me try that bike real quick. I know a lot about bikes. I bet that thing is a 150 cc. You can tell because the engine. Did you know that dirt bikes don't have gas pedals? You seriously just rev the --"

Another disaster, courtesy of Eddie. They would never fire him. They couldn't. Every morning, he brought donuts to the track for everyone, and he knew more jokes about weather and computers than everyone else put together. You just can't put a price tag on that.

The great irony here is that the two sides were arguing over what time SportsCenter was on. Animosity blinds us all.

BENABBAD BOY

Were y'all looking for a heel in these upcoming London Olympics? You have him in France's Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad. Consider:

1. Mekhissi-Benabbad wasn't angry over losing or anything. He'd just won an event.
2. The mascot is seriously just a smiling face. That's it. Like, the fabric manifestation of happiness.
3. The costume was being worn by a 14-year-old girl.

Also, please enjoy the cameraman on the left hauling ass out of this GIF after he realizes Mekhissi-Benabbad is in pushy-shovey mode.

NASTIA LIUKIN AND NASTIA LIUKIN'S DAD

Look out for this one. That leg that springs up at the end? That has a very Rollerblading Raptors Mascot quality to it. Also note that Nastia Liukin's spotter is also her father.

DAVID STERN DON'T GIVE A CR*P

Commissioners are always booed. Stern, Goodell, Selig, Bettman, they're all hated. Can you even visualize what a well-liked commissioner would look like? I'm serious. Every commissioner ever has either been a Kenesaw Mountain Landis-style authoritarian hardass, or a perceived lame duck, or a puppet of the owners, or something. I reckon that if we were ever going to have a commissioner that delivered Bill Murray levels of likability, we would have had one by now. They're all gonna be jerks, as far as we're concerned.

David Stern, seen here at the NBA Draft, obviously understands this quite clearly. Boo all you want. He's still going to run your favorite thing forever.

NORICHIKA AOKI, RYAN BRAUN

These days, scoreboards on TV broadcasts update far more quickly than they did even 15 years ago. But as Ryan Braun slides home a fraction of a second after Norichika Aoki, the scoreboard can't quite catch up. Dammit, scoreboard chyron guy. You had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to execute your patented move, the "Milwaukee double-click," and you blew it. I know you've been practicing it for years, too. Don't lie to me.

JOSE TABATA

Jose Tabata had two chances to throw out John Ballgame, and he missed both times. I'm pretty sure I've seen this happen a couple times before, but not with angles as perfect as these. It looks like the ball's thrown directly to him.
