The Braves got some bad news regarding their standout rookie shortstop on Sunday. Andrelton Simmons has broken his pinkie finger.

The Atlanta Braves have been attempting to gain ground as of late in the National League East. They've won four straight games and are in second place in the division, four games behind the Washington Nationals. However, they did suffer a blow to their roster on Sunday.

According to ESPN, shortstop Andrelton Simmons had to leave Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies early. Team doctors determined that Simmons, who was named the NL Rookie of the Month for June, had suffered a fractured fifth metacarpal in the pinkie finger of his right hand.

The Braves managed to hang on and pull off the 4-3 win against the Phillies. There is no immediate word on whether the injury will cause Simmons to miss any significant amount of playing time.
