Is Landry Jones the best quarterback in NCAA?

Quarterback Landry Jones #12 of the Oklahoma Sooners owns tons of records in Oklahoma, and is ready to shatter extend those totals a lot this year. Is Landry Jones the best QB in the NCAA? Find out what I think, in this breakdown.

While Matt Barkley runs his mouth and says he could have been drafted higher than Robert Griffin III, Landry Jones is steady working to prove people wrong. Since his freshman year at Oklahoma the Artesia, New Mexico native is ready to show everyone what he is capable of. At 6’4, 218 pounds, he is by far the best pocket passer in the 2013 NFL Draft. Yes, I said "The Best" and I really feel that way. Jones is so underrated and I believe that no one is showing him the love he deserves. So I welcome all of you to jump on the LJ12 bandwagon I am starting now, by breaking down a little of what impresses me the most about the senior quarterback.

Coming into his senior season for the Sooners, Jones already owns 13 of the programs passing records, including OU’s all-time passing leader with 12,379 career yards. In just 10 games started his freshman year Jones threw for 3,198 yards including 26 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions. In the last two years he threw for more than 4,400 yards in both seasons, amassing 67 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. Landry Jones has the size and arm strength to be great in the NFL. You have to love that the guy has nine career 400 plus yard passing games and 21 games of over 300 yards. He is no slouch, but for some reason he is not being talked about like Matt Barkley. We are not talking about a Kellen Moore here people; we are talking about a true pocket passer, a true gun slinger.

Jones has poise in the pocket and looks very comfortable. I really like this kid on film. He is a very good quarterback who will have a bunch of new faces around him this year. He is not a very agile kid and wont' break a 50 yard run, but he will make a smart play, and get rid of the ball. He is a smart kid, who has great pocket presence. That is what I love the best about him. Whatever team selects him in the draft, will be getting a very special football player. If he happens to go to a team who has an established line, watch out, because he has the potential to be a Super Bowl winning QB down the line.

I understand the love for a guy like Matt Barkley. He plays for USC, and they produce QB’s, LALALA. Honestly, let’s be real though, Barkley has nowhere near the passing yards that Jones has. He may be a better running quarterback than Jones, but as for a pocket passing slinger, Jones has the advantage. People have gotten away from the orthodox style quarterback who sits in the pocket since the whole Tebow-Mania, Cam Newton and RG3 era, but Jones is what most coaches want. He stands in the pocket like Tom Brady, and makes difficult throws all the time. He is losing his best receiver in Ryan Broyles, but will make the next receiver that good if not better. Jones is not just a one trick pony, he is a gamer, and if you are sleeping on the Oklahoma Sooner quarterback, you might want to go pull up some film. Landry Jones should be the first quarterback taken off the board next year, but will probably still slip through the cracks. Whatever team drafts Jones next year is getting a steal no matter what round or pick it is. I like Matt Barkley, but don’t get me wrong. I believe that people are already beginning to overhype him a la Andrew Luck. So before that happens, I hope people will begin looking at LJ12 the same way.
