Manny Machado Adjusting Well To Life In The Big Leagues

Manny Machado's first two MLB games have been decent. If 4-8 with two home runs is decent.

When the Baltimore Orioles called up Manny Machado earlier this week, it came as a bit of a surprise as Machado was only in Double-A and not exactly lighting it up. Some questioned whether the 20-year-old was ready for the Major Leagues, but if his first two games are any indication, Machado is indeed ready.

In his Major League debut, Machado went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored. An impressive performance for the youngster, but nothing compared to the encore. In his second career Major League game, Machado again went 2-4, but this time with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored. Through two games, he has yet to strikeout. This after striking out 70 times in 109 games in Double-A.

While it would be crazy to proclaim Machado to be the next rookie phenom after only eight at-bats, many prospects have gotten off to much worse starts to begin their MLB careers. The problem for Machado is that it can only go downhill from here. Unless he is going to bat .500 for the season, Machado is likely to cool off at some point. He might even strike out once or twice before it's all over.
