Chad Johnson was arrested Monday in violation of his probation stemming from last year's domestic violence charge.

According to the Associated Press, former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson will serve a year's probation and attend a counseling course under a plea deal with prosecutors after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge.
Johnson was charged after former wife and reality TV star Evelyn Lozada said he head-butted her during an argument. She filed for divorce shortly after. The couple had been married since July 4.
Johnson didn't enter the season on an NFL team after entering training camp with the Miami Dolphins, who cut the six-time Pro Bowl selection shortly after the incident with Lozada went public.
Johnson was a star for the Cincinnati Bengals before a one-year stint with the New England Patriots last season.

Former Miami Dolphins wide reciever Chad Johnson has officially been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from an incident in which he allegedly headbutted his wife, Evelyn Lozada, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
The alleged incident took place on Aug. 11, and Johnson was arrested the same day. According to accounts of the event, the couple began arguing when Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms. Lozada was treated for a laceration on the scene and then transported to a local hospital.
The incident led to Johnson's release from the Dolphins, which was documented in the current season of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series. Johnson had a short discussion with Miami head coach Joe Philbin, reminding Philbin that he had never been in trouble before. The coach still said he felt it best for the Dolphins if they parted ways.
Johnson is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday morning, and is expected to enter a written plea of not guilty rather than physically appear in court, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Chad Johnson, released by the Dolphins three weeks ago, made a cameo on the season finale of HBO's "Hard Knocks," not only vowing to return to the NFL but also suggesting he'll play another five years.
"The Dolphins, I let them down," said Johnson during an occasionally profane montage showing the unemployed wide receiver working out on the beach and at the gym. "I messed up. I got to suffer the consequences. I made that bed I need to lay in it. So basically I got to start all over."
(hat-tip @nba_vids_1)
Johnson was released soon after he was arrested for allegedly headbutting his new wife, Evelyn Lozada. And even though Lozada has since filed for divorce, Johnson in the episode showed off a new tattoo on his calf featuring her portrait.
"How did I even get to this point?" Johnson asks during the montage. "Somewhere along the way I lost focus. I lost something that I love. I lost two things that I love because of my immature actions.
"I'm going to get both of those back, one step at a time."
Assuming he gets a second chance, Johnson suggested he might have another half decade left in his career. "I so f-cked everything up," he said. "I have to re-prove myself again. I still got five years to go."
"I'm not old," he said. "34 is ... that's sexy.

Reggie Bush and Chad Johnson weren't teammates for long, but Bush has been able to get in touch with the former Dolphins receiver and talk to him about his reaction to be released.
From USAToday.com:
"Obviously, he's hurt. What do you expect?" RB Reggie Bush, who's spoken with Johnson, said.
"He's not happy he lost his job, but Chad will be fine. He'll bounce back. I just gave him some words of encouragement, just to stay focused, keep his head above water. He'll be fine. He's a grown man and he'll be OK."
The two players were shown playing video games together in the first episode of Hard Knocks.
Johnson has yet to have any public comment on what transpired with his wife, who has filed for divorce.

Chad Johnson has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this past week. Following the fallout of his arrest for domestic violence after striking his wife with his forehead, Johnson was released by the Miami Dolphins. He had previously been signed to a contract and working to earn a starting spot with the rebuilding franchise.
With HBO's Hard Knocks at Dolphins camp this month, they were able to get some raw footage of Johnson meeting with head coach Joe Philbin as he learned of his release.

You can see that even despite Johnson's plea to get one more chance, coach Philbin was already determined to make the change. Given the circumstances surrounding the veteran receiver, you can't really blame him for not wanting the excess baggage near the team as the season nears.
"I just want to thank you for the opportunity. I know there's nothing I can say at this point, but I appreciate it," Johnson said. He was clearly upset and frustrated with the situation, even though he probably knew it had to be coming.

Evelyn Lozada is ending her marriage to former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson after filing for divorce on Tuesday following Johnson's arrest for domestic battery over the weekend.
The couple was married for only 41 days before the two had an altercation on Saturday that allegedly started after Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms. Johnson was accused of headbutting Lozada and opening up a three-inch gash on the reality star's forehead.
The two were set to start in a VH1 reality TV show called "Ev & Ocho", but the series was shelved after Johnson's arrest.
Johnson was released from jail on $2,500 bond Sunday afternoon and was let go by Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin later in the day after the two discussed the incident.

The year 2012 hasn't been kind to wide receiver Chad Johnson. Way back when he was still called "Ochocinco," he caught just one pass in a losing effort in Super Bowl XLVI, and was later released by the New England Patriots. Johnson later signed with the Miami Dolphins but was released on Sunday, just one day after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Johnson issued a statement to his own website, the OchoCinco News Network, apologizing for his misconduct and subsequent arrest.
I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred. I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death. I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life.
Johnson will do his best to move forward from this incident as he looks to sign with another NFL team.

This should end the argument that the New York Jets would've been a more interesting subject: Freshly released celebrity wide receiver Chad Johnson (né Ochocinco) was filmed by HBO's Hard Knocks cameras as he met with Miami head coach Joe Philbin shortly before his release, according to one report:
Must-see TV: HBO is going to show footage of Philbin meeting with Chad Johnson just before releasing him
— Ben Volin (@BenVolinPBP) August 14, 2012
Translated: Johnson got fired on TV. While roster cuts are nothing new for Hard Knocks - each summer the program's narrative thread is built around a team sizing up position battles and trimming their roster before opening day - there's likely never been one with this amount of star power, and for these circumstances.
Considering Philbin wasn't a huge fan of Johnson's antics before his arrest, we expect a less than warm tone for this week's "dramatic" episode.

Evelyn Lozada, the newlywed wife of former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson, has released a statement in regards to the incident in which Johnson was arrested on a domestic violence charge. In the statement, via her publicist, she criticizes Johnson for not accepting the consequences of his actions.
It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.
Since the arrest, Johnson has lost his job with the Miami Dolphins and their VH1 reality TV show "Ev And Ocho," has been pulled from the fall lineup. 11 episodes involving the couple's engagement and wedding were shot. The show was slated to premier on the network on September 3.

On Saturday, now ex-Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested in Florida after allegedly headbutting his wife.
According to the police, Johnson and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, got into a dispute over a receipt for condoms that she found in his vehicle, which led to the alleged headbutting.
On Monday evening, the 911 call was released. In the call, Johnson's neighbor is talking to the responder, describing Lozada's injuries and asking for police assistance.
The neighbor isn't identified, but he remains calm and collected throughout the call. Johnson's wife can barely be heard in the background answering questions when the responder needs information, but only on a few occasions.
The neighbor repeatedly tells the 911 responder to keep everything low profile, considering Johnson's fame and out of worry that he'll become even angrier.

After being arrested Saturday night, Chad Johnson lost his job as a Miami Dolphins wide receiver.
Now, he's also lost his upcoming reality show entitled "Ev & Ocho" that was scheduled to air on VH1. According to the New York Times, the TV station has tabled the 11 episodes it has filmed instead of airing them as scheduled, starting on September 3.
Johnson was taken into police custody over the weekend after allegedly headbutting his wife when she questioned a receipt for condoms that she discovered in his car.
Johnson's wife, Evelyn Lozada, already has plenty of experience being in the limelight. She was one of the stars on the series "Basketball Wives" which also was a VH1 production. Before meeting Johnson, she was engaged to ex-NBA player Antoine Walker.
VH1 says they have no "current plans" to air the show.
However, that's a far cry from actually declaring the possibility dead.

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin spoke Monday about the team's decision to release wide receiver Chad Johnson. Here's a portion of his brief statement to media members:
"I'd like to address the roster move we made last night. As with any type of these decisions, it was not an easy one. It was not reactive. Nor was it based on one single incident. In making these decisions we base our evaluations on a set of criteria that supports our organizational goals and includes the player's performance both on and off the field."

In an interview with a Ft. Lauderdale radio station, Miami Dolphins middle linebacker Karlos Dansby said that he is not happy with the team's decision to release wide receiver Chad Johnson.
"It’s going to be a bigger distraction because we let him go," Dansby said, via excerpts of the show disseminated by 640 Sports. "He didn’t get that third strike. That’s just me personally. . . . We’ve been through worse. We’ve seen worse."

Dansby added that the whole thing is "out of character" for Johnson, who was arrested for domestic violence on Aug. 11. Johnson was reportedly on a one-strike arrangement with the Dolphins, so the organization was not inclined to be patient with this legal issue.
Johnson spent the 2011 season with the New England Patriots, where he caught 15 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown.

The new, rejuvenated Chad Johnson experiment appears to officially be at an end. Following Johnson's arrest on Saturday evening tied to a domestic violence allegation, the polarizing and controversial wide receiver has reportedly been released by the Miami Dolphins.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the Dolphins have parted ways with Johnson. As of Sunday, scouts have cleaned out the locker of the player formerly known as Chad Ochocinco. Mike Freeman of CBS Sports confirmed the story, suggesting that the Dolphins did not believe Johnson's side of the story regarding the incident and arrest.
Johnson was arrested and released on Saturday after allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada. Johnson had just signed with the Dolphins in the offseason and had stated in interviews that he was looking to prove to NFL fans that he still had plenty left in the tank.
It appears that after this last off-the-field incident, Johnson's NFL career may be over altogether. It would be hard to imagine a team would take a chance on him after this.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada, following a heated argument regarding a condom receipt. Johnson was released from jail on Sunday morning after he posted bond just after 1 p.m. ET..
The details of the arrest are still a bit murky, but via Dave Hyde of the Miami Sun-Sentinel, the police report states that Johnson screamed that he didn't care about his career as Lozada fled the scene.
According to the police report, Johnson screamed at his wife, "I don't give a f---! I don't give a f---about my career!" after head-butting her over a receipt about condoms. Lozada then "fled on foot to a neighbor's house" to escape from Johnson, the report said. She called the police from a neighbor's home, the report said. Johnson drove around the neighborhood looking for her, the report says.
Johnson is expected to report to the Dolphins' training facility on Sunday to explain his side of the story to the team.

Chad Johnson had his bond set at $2,500 following a hearing Sunday morning after spending the night in jail on allegations of domestic violence. The Miami Dolphins wide receiver was also issued a no contact order instructing him to stay away from his new wife, Evelyn Lozada.
Johnson is expected to be released from jail shortly according to his lawyer, Adam B. Swickle. Swickle would not comment further on his client, however.
"I think you're aware I couldn't discuss anything that I've discussed with my client," Swickle said. "At this point in time we have no comment."
Johnson is expected to be at Dolphins practice at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, where he will have to give the team a face-to-face account of what happened between him and his wife Saturday night. Johnson and Lozada reportedly got in a fight over a receipt Lozada found for a box of condoms. The fight ended with Johnson headbutting Lozada, allegedly.

This is just one of those weird coincidences that sticks out in hindsight. On the first episode of Hard Knocks, which aired this past week, Chad Johnson joked about getting arrested. He was obviously kidding, but as he was leaving the building he turned to a man we believe is Stuart Weinstein, the Dolphins' "Team Security Investigator" and promised he was getting arrested.
The quote was taped a while back and it likely has little to do with Johnson's domestic violence arrest on Saturday. But here's the clip that's just odd to look back on.
And the quote: "Stu, I promise I'm getting arrested while we're off." Off camera, we hear "Thanks. Call me. I promise I'll come get you." Other players leaving the building can be heard saying "What? Wait a minute."
Johnson and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, also talk about their relationship, how they met and the like during the episode. It is, like everything else Johnson does, in joking fashion, with the Dolphins' wide receiver saying he paused Call of Duty for her, which makes her a keeper.
Again: Keep in mind that he's joking around. It's interesting, but that's about it. There were no real signs this arrest was coming, and everything is still allegations at this time.

Chad Johnson's public persona as a fun-loving, free-spirited entertainer who happened to play football will certainly take a hit as the story of his domestic violence arrest unfolds. But Johnson has prided himself on not getting arrested, and specifically on not committing acts of domestic violence, as this passage from Ocho Cinco: What Football And Life Have Thrown My Way, his 2007 autobiography with Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole, explains.
You see, the funniest part is that people think I’m so bad, but do you see one arrest on me since I got to the NFL? Do you see me getting suspended for using drugs or steroids? Do you see anything about me beating up my girlfriend or some other guys? No, none of that. Still, people think I’m this bad guy because I do some celebrations and talk trash and I’m flamboyant. Look, I’m working hard, I’m having fun, and nobody is going to stop me from having fun.
The passage in question comes after Johnson discusses an incident at the 2008 Pro Bowl in which a reporter said he shoved an NFL employee. A free preview of Ocho Cinco is available via Google Play.
Johnson also told ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. in a 2001 interview prior to being selected in the 2001 NFL Draft that he wanted to be known for a clean slate after his career.
Kiper: When all is said and done, how do you want people to remember Chad Johnson?
Johnson: As a very humble, nice person who had no off-the-field problems.
Johnson's been known to most national media members as a good guy for most of his career. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero wrote this week of the contrast between Johnson and outgoing Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall, constantly in domestic turmoil.
If Johnson gets the benefit of the doubt in this case, it would be for reasons ESPN's Michael Smith neatly outlined late Saturday night.
I know you never really know somebody and not saying I knew him all that well but this doesn't seem like Chad. Hoping it isn't as it seems.

Chad Johnson was arrested for domestic violence Saturday night and more details of the incident are beginning to emerge. Initial reports stated Johnson allegedly headbutted his wife Evelyn Lozada after an argument started over a receipt for a box of condoms. Contrary to previous reports, though, it was Lozada who found the receipt for the box of condoms, not Johnson.
Now even more details have emerged with Izzy Gould of the Sun-Sentinal reporting that the incident occurred at the couple's home and Lozada alleges Johnson leaned over and head butted her while Johnson claims she leaned towards him and they butted heads. Lozada was treated on the scene for a laceration on her forehead before being transported to a local hospital.

Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence, allegedly after headbutting his wife, Evelyn Lozada. That doesn't jibe with the Johnson many know from his touchdown dances and lively Twitter account -- but his May 8 joke on Twitter about domestic violence doesn't seem funny now.
I got into a heated argument with Evelyn earlier so I shot her.......... a text to apologize for raising my voice.
— Chad Johnson (@ochocinco) May 8, 2012
While public figures' public statements on Twitter can be unserious jokes, and Johnson's often are, making domestic violence a topic for humor is an iffy choice at best for professional comedians, much less the garden-variety celebrity. And this tweet is definitely going to be used against Johnson in the court of public opinion.

The joke was popular, retweeted by 420 Twitter users and favorited by almost 100, and Jockular snagged an image of it should it eventually get deleted.
Johnson spent the 2011 NFL season as an ineffective receiver with the New England Patriots, and signed with the Miami Dolphins in June.
The popular HBO reality series Hard Knocks is profiling the Dolphins this offseason. It seems likely that Johnson's arrest will be covered in this week's new episode, coming Tuesday.

Chad Johnson was reportedly arrested for domestic violence Saturday with police saying the fight between Johnson and his wife Evelyn Lozada took place in a vehicle. Now, we know what started the fight. According to a Davie police spokesman, the argument started over a receipt for a box of condoms.

While the argument may have began over a store receipt, it allegedly ended with Johnson headbutting Lozada. Johnson has been known for several of his off the field ventures, including Dancing With the Stars. Ironically, one of his previous ventures was his own line of condoms.
Johnson signed with the Dolphins this offseason after spending one year in New England. It's still unknown if the latest incident will impact his status on the team.
