Chelsea Vs. Manchester City, 2012 Community Shield: Lineups

Stay connected with SB Nation

Manchester City are about to play a game against Chelsea, but the commentators are probably going to spend a lot of time talking about Jack Rodwell, a player who City just had a bid accepted for. Poor, poor Everton. Anyway, Rodwell isn't actually playing in the 2012 Community Shield, so onto the players who actually will be playing in the game.

In case you were wondering whether or not this is a glorified friendly, City are starting Costel Pantilimon and Stefan Savic, so yes, it is. Chelsea are playing their first team, including Ramires, who is probably going to be playing for Brazil on Wednesday. Stinks for you, Daniel Sturridge.

Chelsea Lineup (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Ashley Cole, John Terry, David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic; Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel; Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Ramires; Fernando Torres

Manchester City Lineup (4-4-2): Costel Pantilimon; Aleksandar Kolarov, Stefan Savic, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta; Samir Nasri, Yaya Toure, Nigel De Jong, James Milner; Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez

Kickoff is at 8:30 a.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. local time from Villa Park in Birmingham, England. Wembley Stadium and the Millennium Stadium were in use for Olympic play, so Chelsea and City were forced into a bit of an unorthodox venue for the game. You can catch the Community Shield on FOX Soccer Channel in the U.S., ITV in the U.K. and Sportsnet World in Canada.
