Edinson Cavani isn't playing, but Uruguay vs. France should still be fun. Didier Deschamps is making his debut as France manager.
It's a new day for the France national team, who have a new manager. Laurent Blanc's contract was up after Euro 2012 and the two parted ways by mutual consent. Didier Deschamps has taken over, and his squad for this friendly is a mix of previously first choice stars and new players that didn't get much of a look under Blanc. They'll get a solid first test, against a fantastic Uruguay team.
Uruguay have been the class of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying so far, going undefeated through five games. Their only real hiccup was a home draw against Venezuela, and they have a 4-0 thrashing of Chile on their record. Most of their stars will be on display in France, but Edinson Cavani, Arevalo Rios, Gaston Ramirez and Martin Caceres will be sitting this one out. Young defender Matias Aguirregaray gets his shot in Caceres' absence, and Lazio forward Emiliano Alfaro could get just his second cap for his country.
Game Date/Time: Wednesday, 3 p.m. ET, 9 p.m. local
Venue: Grand Stade du Havre, La Havre, France
TV: Univision Deportes (U.S.), Sportsnet One (Canada)
