By being placed on the bereavement list, Gonzalez can sit out a maximum of seven days. He will miss at least three games, beginning with the Rockies game against the Florida Marlins Saturday night. To replace Gonzalez on the active roster, the Rockies called up outfielder Charlie Blackmon from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Gonzalez leads the Rockies in virtually every offensive category including batting average (.320), home runs (20), RBI (79) and OPS (.931). The 26-year-old made his first All-Star team this season.
Blackmon played in 27 games for the Rockies last season, hitting .255 with one home run and eight RBI. He began this season on the disabled list with turf toe, but was hitting .303 in 59 games at Triple-A.
