Sandhausen 3 - 0 Energie Cottbus
Sandhausen started things off quickly against Cottbus when their captain Frank Löning headed the ball past a stranded Thorsten Kirschbaum giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Daniel Schulz doubled their lead in the 10th minute when he put a left footed shot into the net past the keeper. Cottbus threw everything forward in the latter stages of the game trying to find a goal to get back into it. Sandhausen hung on for dear life and hit them with an excellent counter in stoppage time when Jan Fießer put the match out of reach at 3-0.
Rot-Weiss Essen 0 - 1 Union Berlin
It took every single one of the 120 minutes to settle the first round cup tie between Rot-Weiss Essen and Union Berlin. After a back and forth 90 minutes, the match seemed destined for penalties. Union almost broke through in the 118th minute when Simon Terodde banged his shot off the post. Essen though they had escaped, but they weren't that lucky. Terodde received a pass from Silvio and beat Dennis Lamczyk in the Essen goal in the 120th minute to win the match.
Chemnitzer 0 - 3 Dynamo Dresden
We were treated to a Saxony Derby in the first round. Fortunately for Dynamo Dresden, they finally came out on top in one. Robert Koch knocked the first goal into the net with a header on a corner. Mikael Pote doubled the lead just before halftime for Dresden. Christoph Buchner put the final death nail Chemnitzer when he accidentally turned the ball into his own net.
Jahn Regensburg 0 - 4 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich sent out a full strength squad to face their 2.Bundesliga opponents. It took half an hour, but some fancy dribbling and a great cross from Franck Ribery later, Bayern were up 1-0 after Mario Mandzukic poked the ball home. Jahn pushed forward, and Marco Djuricin came close but was unable to finish. Xherdan Shaqiri came on at the half and scored a great curling free kick in the 60th minute. The rest of the match became the "Shaqiri Show" as the Swiss midfielder pulled the strings for Mandzukic to get his brace and Claudio Pizarro to "re-open" his Bayern scoring account.
