A quick fantasy football reminder and a hot, secret tip

Some time ago, we announced some MtD fantasy football leagues. Matthew Fairburn and I are running two distinctly different leagues, both through Yahoo! Sports. He is running an auction-style league, I'm doing an oversized 16-team league. Some of you probably run your league in a completely different way.

We want to know how you run your league. Is is standard? Do you have a PPR preference or an IDP agenda? Let us know in the comments. Better yet, if you have a league and are looking or more members, share your league in the comments. Even more, if you're running a Yahoo league, keep the word out as much as possible in the Fanshots.

As mentioned, the league I'm running (and, heck, will probably win!) is 16 teams deep. Our draft is on Aug. 31, so look for a post recapping. Our league is standard scoring, but includes a flex RB/WR/TE position. I'll offer a quick strategy tip of mine after the jump – just don't tell anyone in Dan's League of Fun about it.

A simple strategy I try to adhere too is picking safely early with second-year players. Remember when Matt Forte and Steve Slaton had good rookie years? Forte's touchdowns dropped in his second season and Slaton's yards and touchdowns were cut by a third. For that reason, I probably won't take a chance on Demarco Murray or Victor Cruz where they're expected to go.

Later in the draft will be the time for taking chances on second-year players who underperformed as a rookie. Someone like Arizona's Ryan Williams, who missed last season, is a good deep sleeper. I'm also intrigued by Green Bay's Alex Green, who has been getting a lot of first-team reps this preseason. Those are the kind of players I'll be looking to fill that all-important flex position.
