Michael Strahan: Morning Talk-Show Host

Stay connected with SB Nation

Back when Michael Strahan debuted his smash hit sitcom Brothers, we were all well aware that we were witnessing a star in the making. After Strahan's groundbreaking and hysterical show wrapped up following its fourth season (culminating in his fourth consecutive Best Actor in a Comedy Emmy and receiving unparalleled critical acclaim), many wondered what would be next for this supernova of a television personality. [Note: Brothers did not run for four seasons, was not a hit and did not net Strahan a quartet of Emmys. We apologize for this oversight.] Apparently, the answer is "syndicated early-morning banter."

Via Michael David Smith at ProFootballTalk comes the information that the former New York Giants defensive end will be permanently replacing beloved television icon Regis Philbin on what was formerly Live! With Regis & Kelly. Strahan is expected to be announced as Kelly Ripa's new co-host, who had been working with fill-ins since Philbin left the show in 2011.

This makes perfect sense. I know that "Michael Strahan" immediately jumps into my mind when I think of who I want to watch make "can you believe what Lady GaGa was wearing" jokes at 9 a.m. literally every day for the rest of my life.

The other finalists up for the co-hosting gig were Seth Myers and Josh Groban. Because of course they were. When the nightmare demons come to lock me in a pit of my own fears every night, that's pretty much the usual line-up. Sometimes Frank Caliendo is in there, too. Maybe he can be up for the gig when Strahan leaves. Here's hoping.
