The Tennessee Volunteers have suspended star wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers for breaking team rules. If you've been keeping up with the highly talented former five-star's career, that likely comes as no surprise. The Vols are expected to put up a lot of points this year with Tyler Bray and Justin Hunter back, and while they'll have a harder time doing that without 2011 All-SEC first-teamer Rogers, his absence (however long it lasts) could mean greater focus overall.
Whenever there's a Rogers incident, many point back to his Signing Day flip to Tennessee from his longtime Georgia commitment, but that's not necessarily an indicator of character in most cases. However, the way he talked about the move in the aftermath showed he didn't care all that much about the impact of his choice. Not that he necessarily should, but we can think about it in light of the rest of his Tennessee career.
Shortly after arriving in Knoxville, he was arrested as part of a bar brawl and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He wasn't suspended for that event.
Just this spring, he was looking into transferring to Georgia State while serving some sort of a suspension-like suspension that wasn't officially a suspension and may have begun the previous December or not.
And with the latest development, items like this are coming out:
In 2011 Da'Rick Rogers had a series of incidents, incldg a complete meltdown at UK gm that sources say COMPLETELY crossed line w UT staff.— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) August 23, 2012
Actually, perhaps this is the simplest explanation:
Da'Rick Rogers is basically standing over a toilet, dropping money in the bowl and flushing it. Over and over and over.— Wes Rucker (@wesrucker247) August 23, 2012
