'Revitalized' Vin Scully On Return To Dodgers

Vin Scully held a press conference on Sunday with a fresh view of the team he has called for the past 63 years.

The legendary announcer, now 84 years old, cited the new ownership group that has brought the Dodgers from being a circus act in the news to an instant legitimate contender in the NL West for years to come.

What prompted the decision? First of all, that constant love affair that I have with the game. Secondly, I was so impressed by the new ownership. I was here for the press conference, and I heard some big talk, and I wondered if they would do what they said they would do. Well they have done it 10 times.

Scully is referring to the beyond-mega-blockbuster trade the Dodgers completed with the Red Sox over the weekend as the Dodgers look to make the postseason for the first time since 2009. The Dodgers currently sit two games behind the San Francisco Giants for the NL West lead, and one game behind the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals in the wild card race.

His passion has never been in question as he extends his record for announcing to 64 seasons in 2013. Scully no longer calls the entire schedule, usually limiting himself to the Dodgers home games and most road games against NL West opponents.

What they have done is revitalized the city, the team, the fans, and myself. I realized that if you give a toy to a little child, especially a boy, he's going to start asking questions: how far will it go? How fast will it go? I think like Roy Campanella said, you have to have a lot of little boy in you to play this game. I think you have a lot of little boy in you to love this game, and I still have that little boy in me.

One of the more interesting parts on the schedule could make for a rare east-coast trip for Scully. Scully last headed back east when the Dodgers played the Red Sox at Fenway Park in 2010. Next year, the Dodgers are scheduled for an interleague series at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees, and it looks like Scully is planning on packing his bags for that trip.

There is a temptation, and if Sandy promises to go with me, I really would like to see Yankee Stadium, and the Dodgers and the Yankees...That really gets my imagination stirring. First of all, I haven't seen the new Yankee Stadium, but just to go back and play the Yankees.
