Nigel de Jong is officially a member of AC Milan, with the club's website confirming that he is "one of our players". The move was essentially finalized on Thursday with the player saying that he was happy to join Milan, but the personal terms and medical are now completed so the deal is 100% done.
Milan lost Mark van Bommel to PSV over the summer and needed a replacement. They did well to find as much of a van Bommel clone as possible, getting his Netherlands international midfield partner. de Jong is as much the hard-tackling, tough defensive midfielder that van Bommel is, but at 27 years old he is also younger and a bit more capable in the final third.
With Serie A a complete crapshoot, every signing could be make a major diference and signing a player like de Jong makes a major difference. Milan now have some stability in the midfield, even if it doesn't come close to making up for the sames of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.
