Cleveland Browns linebacker Chris Gocong was carted off the field on Saturday morning with an apparent serious injury to his right ankle.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Chris Gocong was carted off the field at training camp on Saturday morning. Gocong was defending tight end Jordan Cameron when he pulled up and grabbed his lower right leg. He could not put any weight on it and was carted off the field. Initial speculation focused on a potential Achilles injury, but head coach Pat Shurmur said the veteran was still headed to get an MRI. A torn Achilles would end his season:

If the injury is serious and Gocong will miss significant time, it will compound the lack of depth in a Browns linebacking corps that will be without leader Scott Fujita, who's set to serve a three-game suspension for his role in the Saints bounty scandal. If Gocong is out, it's likely that rookie linebacker James-Michael Johnson, a fourth-round pick out of Nevada, will see significantly increased playing time and fill in. Kaluka Maiava would be another back up getting plenty of time if both Gocong and Fujita are out to start the season.
