Alabama junior running back Jalston Fowler will likely miss the 2012 season after recovering from knee surgery, coach Nick Saban said Monday.

Alabama junior running back Jalston Fowler will undergo surgery on his left knee and will likely miss the 2012 season, coach Nick Saban told reporters Monday.

Fowler was injured during Alabama's 35-0 win over Western Kentucky Sept. 8. Fowler was helped off the field with approximately six minutes remaining in the game.

Primarily a fullback, Fowler has 85 yards on 11 carries this season, and rushed 56 times for 385 yards for Alabama's national championship team in 2011.

Fowler, a Mobile, Ala., product, was recruited as a fullback and a linebacker nationally, choosing to stay in-state to play for the Crimson Tide. He saw action in 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2010, and was behind Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy on the depth chart in 2011.

Alabama, the nation's top-ranked team, travels to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks in SEC action at 3:30 p.m. ET Sept. 15.
