For the second straight year, Utah Utes starting quarterback Jordan Wynn has suffered an early-season injury. He's out for the game with an apparent shoulder injury.
After the junior suffered his seventh hit (including three sacks) by a Utah State defender just before halftime, he came up clutching his left arm across his body and exited to the sidelines. He was replaced by Jon Hays -- some had expected Travis Wilson instead.
Hays took over for Wynn in 2011 after a season-ending injury, leading Utah to a 6-4 record and a bowl victory. So far in this game, he's gotten the ball moving in a one-minute drill, making plays with both his arms and legs (though the legs one was called back) and helping Utah put its first three points on the board.
At this point, there's no telling when Wynn will return, and if he's able to do so quickly, if the Utes will elect to pull Hays anyway.
