Aston Villa Vs. Swansea City: Final Score 2-0 As Villa Mark Return To Playing Actual Football

Aston Villa earned their first win of the young season with an impressive performance against Swansea City. Paul Lambert's supposed revolution had seen a return of just one point from his first three matches in charge, and that included a comprehensive home defeat to Everton. Michael Laudrup's Swansea, on the other hand, had been a completely different story, playing lovely football and earning themselves seven points from nine to start the season.

Not too many, in other words, were expecting Villa to cruise. Yet cruise they did. Brad Guzan kept the visitors out whenever they threatened, and a superb strike by Matt Lowton, his first at senior level, gave Villa the lead in the 16th minute. The second half saw Lambert's side even go so far as to dominate possession, leaving Swansea looking rather flummoxed, and the points were secured when an Ashley Williams error allowed new signing Christian Benteke to notch on his debut.

If Villa keep playing like that, we're going to have to revisit the 'relegation candidates' narrative.
