Sunderland Vs. Liverpool: Final Score 1-1, Much Work To Do For Both Teams

Liverpool and Sunderland played to a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light in a match that resembled an unimpressive sandwich. The two goals, one from each side, were the plain meat and cheese smashed between two large pieces of boredom parading as bread.

It took roughly 30 minutes of drab football before Sunderland opened the scoring. Craig Gardner turned Glen Johnson in circles and raced in towards goal before sending a cross right across Pepe Reina's net that found Steven Fletcher who coolly finished. Fletcher had fought off Martin Skrtel for the inside position and there's nothing Reina could do to prevent the goal.

Liverpool looked better in the second half with Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard both managing to hit the post and Skrtel forcing an excellent save from Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet. It took awhile, but Liverpool finally did find the back of the net in the 71st minute. Raheem Sterling's cross pin-balled in the box before dropping to Luis Suarez who scored the equalizer. The goal was a deserved reward for 25 plus minutes of solid attack in the second half from the Reds.

Not the most inspiring play from either side, but a draw is a fair result though Liverpool were the more dangerous attacking side, especially in the second half.
