Almost time for the heavyweight MLS match of the day, the main event if you will. The Portland Timbers host their bitter rivals the Seattle Sounders with the Cascadia Cup potentially on the line. The Timbers can claim the cup with a win today and have something to celebrate after what's been an overwhelmingly disappointing season. As for the Sounders, they can clinch a playoff spot with a win (and a San Jose win) along with keeping the race for the Cascadia Cup alive.
The Sounders make three changes from their 2-1 win over Chivas USA on Spetember 9th as Andy Rose replaces Christian Tiffert in the midfield while Jeff Parke and Adam Johansson take over for Patrick Ianni and Zach Scott on the back line. Mauro Rosales is out today with a quad injury, while Tiffert is unavailable with an ankle problem.
Gavin Wilkinson's lineup holds no real surprises, with the only change from their last match against the Rapids being at left back where Rodney Wallace replaces Steven Smith.
Portland Timbers XI (4-2-3-1): Donovan Ricketts; Kosuke Kimura, Hanyer Mosquera, David Horst, Rodney Wallace; Darlington Nagbe, Jack Jewsbury, Diego Chara; Sal Zizzo, Bright Dike, Franck Songo'o
Seattle Sounders XI (4-4-2): Michael Gspurning; Adam Johansson, Jeff Parke, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Leo Gonzalez; Brad Evans, Osvaldo Alonso, Andy Rose, Steve Zakuani; Freddy Montero, Eddie Johnson
