Schalke continued their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga with a 2-0 victory away to Greuther Fürth. The win pulls them even with several clubs including rivals Borussia Dortmund and two points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
The visitors pushed forward early and often, but they couldn't quite put together the final pass to get the goal. They came close early, but Julian Draxler headed his attempt over the goal.
Fürth defended well, but they got their opportunities on the break thanks to Edu. He's on loan from Schalke for the season, and he seemed determine to find the back of the net against them. Unfortunately, he was unable to really challenge Lars Unnerstall.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar had a golden opportunity to put Schalke in front just before the half thanks to a great pass from Jermaine Jones, but the Dutch forward put his shot into Row X.
The second half started, and Schalke soon had their lead. Draxler unleashed a bomb from 30 yards out that left Fürth goalkeeper Max Grün absolutely no chance of saving. The 18 year old was putting together another great performance for the Royal Blues.
Lewis Holtby doubled the lead minutes from time finishing a beautiful one-two pass with Tranquillo Barnetta.
Fürth only have three points out of their first three matches, but they'll take it and move on to the next one. Somehow they drew Bayern Munich and Schalke in two of their first three matches.
