Real Madrid Vs. Manchester City, UEFA Champions League: Hart Denies Ronaldo

Stay connected with SB Nation

Manchester City have Joe Hart to thank for being on level terms against Real Madrid. It's all too easy for the hosts in their first group stage match, and Cristiano Ronaldo appears in the mood to do some damage. Having already embarrassed Maicon in the early going, he finds himself isolated against Vincent Kompany on the right side of Hart's penalty box in the eighth minute.

The Belgian centre half had no more luck against Ronaldo than his teammate, getting turned inside out before falling over and allowing his opponent to get a shot away. The ball is destined for the bottom corner, but a superb fingertip stop from Hart deflects it just wide for a corner. Said corner comes to more or less nothing, but the pressure's still on -- City are really under the cosh here. Hart saves again from Ronaldo a few minutes later, not quite as spectacularly.
