Yovani Gallardo's 6⅔ scoreless innings gave the Milwaukee Brewers a much-needed win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Yovani Gallardo pitched a strong game for the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday night to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-0. Gallardo threw 6⅔ scoreless innings, giving up only two hits while striking out six to record the win, his 16th of the season.

Tuesday's game was basically a must-win for both the Brewers and the Pirates, as both try to remain within striking distance of the second National League Wild Card. Coming into the game, they were tied 2½ games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for that Wild Card spot. The win keeps the Brewers' hopes alive, but the Pirates' chances are that much worse with the loss.

The Brewers led 2-0 going into the seventh inning when Rickie Weeks singled and stole second, Ryan Braun singled and stole second, and Jonathan Lucroy singled and stole second to make it 4-0. They pushed the lead to 6-0 in the eighth with two singles, an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Brewers stole seven bases in the game.
