Telstar, Tango, Questra, Fevernova, Teamgeist, and Jabulani. When discussing soccer balls and their place in the sport's history, adidas really has the market cornered thanks to their history with the World Cup. The Telstar is an icon and the Teamgeist and Jabulani balls are still huge talking points from the last two tournaments. Now, ahead of World Cup 2014 in Brazil, adidas have announced that the next ball will be called the adidas Brazuca.
"Brazuca," an informal term to describe the Brazilian way of life and the population's pride in it, won out over the two other options, Bossa Nova and Carnavalesca, by a very healthy margin. Of the one million Brazilian fans that voted, Brazuca received a massive 70% of the count. Even though the name has been revealed but the ball has not yet been shown off. If recent history is anything to go by, adidas and FIFA should show off their newly engineered creation (that is currently in testing) about six months before the World Cup begins.
