The Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to six games, beating the Washington Nationals, 4-2, at Nationals Park Friday night with three runs in the ninth inning. The result, combined with a Cardinals loss, moves the Brewers within 1½ games of St. Louis for the National League's second Wild Card spot.
Nationals starter Edwin Jackson held the Brewers to one run in eight innings, allowing six hits and fanning six. Tyler Clippard allowed a lead-off bunt single by Norichika Aoki, who advanced to second after a passed ball by Jesus Flores; moving to third on Rickie Weeks' fly ball out. A single by Ryan Braun scored Aoki.
Clippard allowed three hits and three runs in ⅔ of an inning for his fifth blown save and sixth loss this season. Jose Veras took his fifth win of the year after tossing a shuout inning of relief work, and John Axford earned his 32nd save.
