Hulk is moving from FC Porto to Zenit St. Petersburg for a reported €50 million.
Because the Russian transfer window closes a couple of weeks after the transfer window closes in most of Europe, we've been provided with an extra bit of transfer drama after August 31. According to reports out of Portugal and Russia, Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg have signed FC Porto forward Hulk for a fee of €50 million.
Hulk has been repeatedly linked to clubs in the Premier League, but no one ever came close to meeting Porto's asking price. Gazprom-backed Zenit have come forward and made an offer that Porto couldn't refuse, and Hulk almost certainly stands to pick up a massive raise for moving to Russia.
Zenit are the reigning champions of the Russian Premier League. They're currently top of the table in Russia and will be competing in the UEFA Champions League group stage this fall. The departure of Andrei Arshavin and Danny's devastating knee injury have hurt Porto, and Hulk provides them with much needed attacking help. He's not a direct replacement for either of them by any stretch of the imagination, but Zenit just needed any kind of infusion of quality into their front three.
Alexander Kerzhakov has recently returned from injury and scored twice over the weekend while playing center forward, so Hulk should start his Zenit career on the right side of their forward line.
