Portugal should beat Luxembourg comfortably on Friday.
Portugal play Luxemborg in World Cup qualifying on Friday. They're going to win easily and their opponents aren't worth spending much time on. Let's give them a paragraph anyway.
Luxembourg isn't very good at football. They've produced a good number of world-class cyclists, but haven't managed to do the same with footballers. On one hand, this is a bit surprising. They're located right between France and Germany, and football is extremely popular in the country. On the other hand, the entire country is about the size of Fresno, California. They have zero players in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga. They have one player in the Swiss Super League and one in the Eredivisie.
Portugal are coming off of a successful run in Euro 2012 and Paulo Bento will be hoping to build off that tournament by qualifying for the World Cup without the use of a playoff. Portugal's had some nail-biting times trying to qualify for the last two major tournaments, and fans of their side will probably live longer if their team does not give them another heart attack and just finishes on more points than Russia.
Game Date/Time: Friday, 2:45 p.m. ET, 8:45 p.m. local
Venue: Stade Josy Barthel, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
TV: Sportsnet One (Canada)
Online: ESPN3 (U.S.)
