Argentina will expect a win at home against Paraguay on Friday.
If things fall their way on Friday, Argentina could go top of the table in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with a win over Paraguay. Chile, who have played one more match than both Argentina and Chile, are top of the table and are idle this round. They sit on 12 points, while Uruguay have 11 and Argentina have 10. The Albiceleste should have their hands full with a tough Paraguay side, but they'll be heavily favored to win.
Alejandro Sabella seems to have finally figured out his team, and Lionel Messi is excelling in a free role, behind Gonzalo Higuain at the center of Argentina's 4-2-3-1 formation. Angel Di Maria and Ezequiel Lavezzi are proving to be perfect flank partners for the World Player of the Year, while Rodrigo Braña and Fernando Gago should provide some stability in midfield behind them.
Paraguay like to sit deep and hit long balls to their strikers on the counter, a strategy which could prove effective on Friday. Argentina are going to commit numbers forward and their defense, while talented, is not spectacular. The Paraguayans will have opportunities to catch their opponents on the counter if they do not concede early.
Game Date/Time: Friday, 7:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, Cordoba, Argentina
TV: beIN Sport (U.S. - Spanish)
