Kelvim Escobar was trying to make a comeback to baseball. He hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007, but he will have a new opportunity.
Escobar made 201 starts and 209 relief appearances for the Blue Jays and Angels from 1997-2007, but he developed shoulder problems and was away from the Majors until 2009, when he was able to make one start. He signed with the Mets the following year but injured himself again.
He reappeared in Venezuela with Cardenales de Lara this winter, posting a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings of work both as a starter and reliever, fanning eight. Lara is currently in the Venezuelan five-team semifinal round robin, and Escobar is on the roster.
MLB.com says Milwaukee scouts have seen Escobar throwing a mid-90s fastball with encouraging review.
