Hecht is coming off a four-year, $14.1 million contract with the Sabres after spending the past nine seasons in Buffalo. The 35-year-old veteran made his NHL debut with the Blues in 1999 and spent three seasons in St. Louis before a brief one-year stint with the Edmonton Oilers in 2001-2002.
The veteran enjoyed a career season with the Sabres in 2006-2007, with 19 goals and 37 assists in 76 games, and once again broke the 40-point barrier in 2009-2010 with 21 goals and 21 assists in 79 games.
Hecht suffered a concussion in January 2012 and missed the remainder of the season with the injury. The veteran center had just four goals and four assists in 22 games before the injury.
The Buffalo Sabres open the season on Sunday, Jan. 20, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
