The Spurs coach is under the weather.
Every Spurs game is a plum opportunity to watch Gregg Popovich seethe and scowl on the San Antonio bench, but alas, not tonight. Via Pounding the Rock, we've learned that Popovich is under the weather and will stay home while assistant coach Mike Budenholzer takes the reins for the Spurs' game tonight against the New Orleans Hornets. Feel better, Pop, and expect a sarcastic notice of a fine from the league office.
With Popovich out, tonight's Spurs will barely resemble the usual team. Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard will both sit to rest knee injuries and Manu Ginobili remains sidelined due to a hamstring strain. Thankfully, Popovich won't be missing his first opportunity to coach Australian newcomer Aron Baynes. The big man officially signed today, but won't be in uniform tonight.
Budenholzer will send out Tony Parker, Danny Green, Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw, and Tiago Splitter as his starters. The mediocre Hornets have already given San Antonio some trouble this year, winning one of three surprisingly close games, and this could be their chance to even the season series.
In closing:
Pop's words of wisdom for Budenholzer: Have fun. You'll either win or lose.

Hurry back, Pop.
