Jamie Benn's season debut for Dallas Stars could be delayed

The top center for the Dallas Stars, recently signed to a five-year contract, could miss another game due to immigration paperwork issues.

Dallas Stars center Jamie Benn is expected to make his season debut on Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, yet immigration paperwork issues could delay his taking the ice at least another day,

reports Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.

Benn and the Stars agreed to a five-year, $26.5 million contract on Thursday night, announced during the loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, with Benn traveling to Dallas to practice with the team on Friday. Since Benn is Canadian, however, he is in need of a work visa in order to be officially added to the NHL roster, or else he can't play.

Since the visa paperwork could not be filed without a signed contract, the Stars were not able to send in the request until Friday. Because the immigration offices are closed over the weekend, there's a chance the paperwork could not be approved in time for Benn to play. Benn would have to be on the NHL roster by 5 p.m. ET in order to play on Monday.

Benn has already missed five games this season, with the Stars going 2-2-1 in his absence.
