The Briuns enforcer will miss significant time with a concussion following a brutal fight with John Scott.
Boston Bruins forward and resident pugilist Shawn Thornton is out 7-10 days due to a concussion, the team announced on Friday.
Thornton was involved in a nasty fight with John Scott of the Buffalo Sabres during the first period on Thursday night, with Scott easily winning the bout by landing a number of uncontested shots to Thornton's head and face. The Sabres had vowed not to be pushed around by the Bruins again after several notable offseason changes and Scott challenged Thornton early in the first meeting this season between the two teams.
The Bruins enforcer never returned to the game after the fight, as the Sabres executed an amazing 7-4 comeback victory with four goals in the third period.
Thornton has just one point in seven games this season but has already amassed 25 penalty minutes. In 457 career games with the Blackhawks, Ducks and Bruins, Thornton has just 31 goals and 74 points with 797 total penalty minutes in his career.
