The competition was a cuddly sort of fierce, but the Sporting group was won by a German Wirehaired Pointer.
Oakley, a German Wirehaired Pointer, trotted his way to a victory in the Sporting Group of the 2013 Westminster Dog Show on Tuesday.
A Black Cocker Spaniel and English Springer Spaniel rounded out the top three in the Sporting Group, which is the first of three groups to be announced Tuesday night.
Here's a pretty good idea of what Oakley looked like. His handler, Phil Booth, said that as Oakley waits for the Best In Show judging later on Tuesday night, he will likely get a drink of water and perhaps play with a toy. Oakley is a pretty relaxed canine, Booth says, though he possessed a rather unbreakable focus, on something, in the post-judging interview.
German Wirehaired Pointers, according to Westminster's web site, are a versatile, all-weather hunting dog, able to help on both land and water expeditions. They love people attention, happily take orders and stand by their owner's side faithfully through thick and thin.
