The Portuguese Water Dog came out of the awesomely diverse Working Group as the winner at the Westminster Dog Show.

The Working Group at the Westminster Dog Show usually covers a lot of ground in terms of shapes, sizes and looks. Most of them, such as the Komondor, are winners no matter what. On Tuesday night, though, the Portuguese Water Dog won the actual group and will head to the Best In Show judging round.

The Doberman Pincsher, which began the group as the odds-on favorite, came in second place while the Boxer took third.

Matisse, the Portuguese Water Dog, is only in the first stages of his specials career, and it should unanimously be agreed that the "lion cut" he was sporting played a factor in swaying judge Robert Vandiver's final decision.

According to Westminster's web site, the Portuguese Water Dog is a fishing dog, with coats coming in flows of either curly or wavy. They listen well yet have an energy all their own, and if you need a dog to keep watch of things? Well, these canines stay on-guard, looking out for their owner.

The final group to be decided Tuesday is the Terrier Group.
