At last, Dwight Howard ditches the headband

Much better.

It's not entirely clear why Dwight Howard picked Tuesday night of all nights to stop wearing a headband so reviled by fans that there were petitions against its existence. It is the case, though, that after 46 games played with a purple or yellow headband, he stepped on the floor against the Suns sans accessory.

In related news, Howard had 12 points and nine rebounds in the first half as the Lakers took a 56-47 lead over Phoenix. So, ya know ... this is the start of a new season. For real this time.
