When the No. 5 seed Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers take on the No. 3 seeded LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds in Tuesday night's NEC Championship Game, it will conclude one of the wildest conference tournaments played this March. Each team defeated a higher seeded club in the semifinals to reach the final.
Starting with Mount St. Mary's, the Mountaineers pulled off a shocking upset in the semifinals, when they went on the road and defeated top-seeded Robert Morris, 69-60. Mount St. Mary's got 26 points from guard Rashad Whack, while Sam Prescott added 15 points and seven rebounds to help the Mountaineers advance to the finals.
Meanwhile, LIU-Brooklyn also had to knock off a higher-seeded team on the road to get to Tuesday's final, when they won at Wagner, 94-82. The Blackbirds shot a scorching 65 percent from the field in the victory, with six players scoring in double figures.
Tuesday night's final will tip off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
