NCAA bracket 2013: Louisville No. 1 on full seed list

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, was obviously No. 1 on the Selection Committee's seed list. But a few surprises were found not far from the top.

The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee uses what it calls a "seed list" to construct each year's March Madness bracket, but has only recently been releasing those seed lists to the public. Via CBS Sports, we now know the full official NCAA Tournament seed list for 2013.

Louisville, of course, is the No. 1 team on the seed list, and the Cardinals got the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. That ranking likely got Louisville its favorable placement in the Midwest Regional, and bumped both Kansas and Indiana, more local to the Midwest Regional than any other, to the South and East, respectively.

But while Gonzaga was the lowest-rated of the No. 1 seeds, it got a favorable draw in the West, according to the seed list: the No. 4 overall seed Bulldogs get No. 8 Ohio State, No. 9 New Mexico, and No. 14 Kansas State on the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 lines, and Ohio State and Kansas State will both have to travel a long way to the West Regional in Los Angeles ... if they get there.

The seed list also reveals Ole Miss, which beat Florida to win the SEC's automatic bid, as the lowest-ranked team from a power conference at No. 47; Middle Tennessee State as the lowest-ranked non-automatic team at No. 50; and California, at No. 42, as the lowest-ranked team from a power conference without an automatic bid.
