Kevin Garnett will not play for the Boston Celtics when they attempt to break-up the Miami Heat's 22-game win streak, the team announced on Monday afternoon. Garnett will miss his second straight game with a leg injury.
For Boston, the move is not surprising.
With the Celtics sitting at the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference standings, they can afford to rest Garnett, their veteran power forward who is averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds this season. Garnett has missed two games this season (both Celtics victories) including Saturday's victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.
However, Monday night's game is different than most others in the regular season, with the Heat attempting to win their 23rd straight game. That would be the second-most consecutive wins for any team in NBA history, and would trail only the Los Angeles Lakers, who set a mark of 33 straight victories during the 1971-72 season.
Miami last lost on February 1, against the Indiana Pacers.
