Northeast Conference Tournament 2013 bracket: Colonials look to win third championship in five years

Wesley Hitt

Robert Morris won the NEC Tournament in 2009 and 2010, and they will look to do it again this year. The Colonials won the NEC regular season and will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

Robert Morris has won seven Northeast Conference Tournament championships, more than any other team, and they're in position to make it eight in 2013. The Colonials are the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament and will host St. Francis (NY) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Robert Morris won the Northeast Conference regular season title with a 14-4 league record, two games ahead of Wagner, Bryant, and LIU-Brooklyn, who all finished in a three-way tie for second at 12-6. Those schools will be rewarded for their efforts with the chance to host a quarterfinal game as well.

Wagner, however, gets the second seed after going a combined 3-1 against the Blackbirds and Bulldogs.

Mount St. Mary's and Quinnipiac finished right behind those schools, tied for fifth, but Mount St. Mary's won head-to-head and therefore owns the tie-breaker.

The NEC is a 12-team league, but only eight make the conference tournament. It spans three rounds, with each game being played on the campus of the higher seed. Each quarterfinal game will take place on Wednesday, with the winners advancing to the semifinals on Saturday, March 9, then the championship game on March 12.

Here is a look at the tournament's complete schedule:
