Honda Classic 2013 results: Michael Thompson wins on PGA Tour for 1st time

Thompson held off the rest of the field Sunday to pick up the win.

Michael Thompson won the 2013 Honda Classic with a final-round 69, topping the late-charging Geoff Ogilvy for the title. The victory is Thompson's first on the PGA Tour.

Thompson, who finished the tournament at -9, came into the final round tied at eight under par with Luke Guthrie. But where Thompson remained steady, Guthrie stumbled -- he finished in third place at 5-under.

While Guthrie faltered on the back nine, Geoff Ogilvy did what he could to pressure Thompson. He birdied 16, which got him to -6, and Thompson later bogied that hole, dropping him to -8. Ogilvy closed to within one with a birdie on 18, but Thompson calmly handled the final hole, eventually giving himself an easy birdie to secure the win.

Elsewhere in the field, Tiger Woods shot a 4-over 74 and was never a factor in the final round. He would have needed a huge day to get back in contention anyway, but it was nonetheless a disappointing end to his tournament. Some of the big movers on the day included David Lynn, Graeme McDowell and Charl Schwartzel, who were able to work their way into the top 10.

The final leaderboard:

1. Michael Thompson (-9)
2. Geoff Ogilvy (-7)
3. Luke Guthrie (-5)
T4. David Lynn (-3)
T4. Lucas Glover (-3)
T4. Erik Compton (-3)
T4. Keegan Bradley (-3)
T4. Justin Rose (-3)
T9. Charl Schwartzel (-2)
T9. Graeme McDowell (-2)
T9. Graham DeLaet (-2)
T9. Lee Westwood (-2)
